1. The render queue is a module in AE that gives us control over the exporting of composition. To access it you hit Ctrt+Shift+/

2. Resolution in after effects means that amount of pixels in a rendered composition.

3. You would use clipnotes to help with the review of a video with comments. It uses Acrobat, and it works by letting a reviewer adding comments in a composition.

4. To export to multiple sources, you would select the output module and hit Ctrl+d. It duplicates the output module.

5. The shortcut to add a sequence to the queue  Ctrl+Shift+/.

6. The compression type plays the biggest role in quality and file size.

7. CODEC stands for Compression and Decompression because it has to do both.

8. The purpose of the dialogue in Adobe Media Encoder is to allow us to output content for specific media devices.

9. Device central is a way to preview footage in different cellphones.


Chp 18.

1. To import .psd’s files into after effects you double click on the project panel and click once on the desired .psd and select any of the options in the import as drop down menu.

2. Composition brings in every layer at the size of the document and composition cropped layers brings in a layer at the size of the layer not the document. Footage gives you a dialog box with more options such as merged layer and choose layer.

3. After effects will recognize layer, visibility, opacity, layer blend modes, alpha channels, layer masks, adjustment layers, groups, vector clipping paths, layer styles, guides, clipping groups, text and video layers.

4. To apply layer styles in after effects you right click on a layer and mouse over layer styles from the drop down menu.

5. Select the layer menu at the top and select convert to editable text.

6. To export a frame as a layered ps file select composition at the top and select save frame as photoshop layer from the drop down menu.

7.  Some hella tight things you could with photoshop and after effects is making 3d objects with simple flat layered images.

Chp 17.

1. It means to work in a 3d layer being able to move flat layers in a 3d enviroment.

2. Checking the cube in the layer panel enables 3d. The values are x,y, and z.

3. X is left and right, Y is up and down, and Z is towards or away from.

4. Red is x, green is y, blue is z.

5. Typically we do not want to animate the 3d orientation.

6. A null object is a fill-in for a regular layer.

7. The children inherit the properties of the parent object.

8. Per character animation allows us to add a z-axis to our layers. It works by giving a text’s properties z-axis settings.

9. You must enable 3d layers.

10. To make sure a layer can cast shadows you must turn on Cast Shadows in the material options for that layer. Also, the background layer must a z-axis value.

11. View ports give us more perspectives on our layer. They work by opening up different views of different angles on the project.

12. The difference between local and world axis mode is that local axis mode moves the layer to the solids axis not what would be our and world axis mode moves the object from our perspective. Continue reading

Chp 16.

1. One of the tools that lets you see audio is waveform.

2. Markers are used to mark point on a layer and you use them to sync up audio with video.

3. Two audio effects are backwards and delay; they play the effect backwords and creates a certain echo effect respectively.

4. To create audio keyframes you right click on the audio clip, go to keyframe assistant, and select convert audio to keyframes.

5. You could link up layer properties to audio levels causing the layer properties to increase with the audio levels.

Chp 14 and 15.

1. To trim a clip your drag the edge of the layer’s bar in the timeline panel and set it to the desired point.

2. To make the clip got to frame 0 you hit the home key.

3. The keyboard shortcut to trim an inpoint and an out is ‘alt’ and the left or right bracket respectively. ‘I’ takes you to the inpoint and ‘O takes you to the outpoint.

4. If you alt double click on a film clip it opens up the footage in a footage panel.

5. The footage panel can be used without adding the footage to the composition.

6. The slip edit function keeps the in and outpoints the same while slipping the content around.

7. To split a layer you hit ctrl+shift+d. The reason for doing this is to insert a clip in between another clip.

8. Stretching makes a clip run faster or slower.

9. To mask objects you select the rectangle tool from the toolbar and drag around what needs to be masked.

10. To create a track mat switch from switches/modes and select the desired effect from the drop down menu.

11. A garbage matte is a simple way to eliminate unwanted outer things in layer.

12. Keylight is an effect that allows us to select a color on the background and basically eliminate it.

13.  You remove a green screen in AE by using keylight.

1. To create a text box you can hit the horizontal type tool in the toolbar on top of the interface and drag a box. To accept the text you can hit the selection tool or hit enter on the number pad.

2. When you hold all the modifier key and the ‘T’ key is held it places a cursor in the middle of the screen.

3. The auto-open panels show the panels that relate to the current tool being used.

4. Leading is the space between lines of text and it got its name from print mechanics and lead which was inserted into the space of the lines.

5. Tracking is the option to create equal spacing across a range of letters.

6. To animate portions of text you hit the animate button on the text layer and animate like otherwise.

7. The wiggly selector takes a certain value and randomly sets it to letters.

8. To get to the text animation presets open the presets folder in the after effects folder.

9. U and UU shows all keyframes and all changed properties respectively.

10. To display safe zone you go to the bottom of the composition panel to the target icon click and select title/action safe they are used to ensure what we want to be seen is seen.

Chp 12.

1. The list of effects is found  under the Effects & Presets preset panel, and you apply them by double clicking the effect.

2. You turn off effects by going to the master effect switch in the timeline panel.

3. Motion blur is something that can be applied to to layer that makes the layer blur as it moves.

4. CC is CyCore and it is a third party effect. It can also be crowd control.

5. Somethings that can be done with the blur effect is adding motion blurs to moving layers.

6. With the distort effects you can change certain aspects of the image.

7. The light effects give layers different affects that change the effects with lights such as glow, lens flare, and light sweep.

1. Shatter is an auto animating effect that lets us animate the affect of something being shattered.

2. Camera position tells us that the effect is fully 3d.

3. Some of the affects are color level, hue saturation, brightness, and tint.

4. Bridge allows us to import files from other adobe products and also allows us to preview them.
